1. Start with the Approved Part Number
Use the complete manufacturer part number from the approved bill of materials (BOM), including suffixes.
If the BOM, supplier quote, and label show different numbers, stop and clarify the difference. Do not remove letters just to make them match.
2. Check More Than Memory Size
Ask engineering to confirm:
- Memory capacity and operating voltage
- Package size, footprint, and pin connections
- Interface, required speed, and operating temperature
- Firmware and programming requirements

3. Ask Whether Alternatives Are Allowed
Before checking another part, ask:
- Must we use the exact approved part?
- Is another part already approved?
- Who must approve a change?
- What testing or customer approval is required?
For new product introduction (NPI), confirm the part approved for each build. Do not assume a sample approval also covers production.
4. Send One Clear Request
Copy this note to engineering:
“Please confirm the full approved part number, package, voltage, and temperature range. Are alternatives allowed? If yes, please identify the approved options or required checks.”
Mark missing details as “To be confirmed.”
